Based on Baron Baptiste’s ‘Journey into Power’ (JIP) sequence, it is deeply rooted in the traditional teachings of Ashtanga, Bikram and Iyengar.
There are 11 family of poses which include the essential categories of standing poses, forward bends, backbends, twists and inversions.
This sequence is fixed, at the same time it is adaptable to every student’s practice. The Baptiste Yoga sequence can be seen as a blueprint that encourages creativity and adaptability no matter where you are in your yoga practice.
Seven (7) of the teachers at Pose-itively Yoga have either their 200 Hour YTT (yoga teacher training) with an emphasis on Baptiste Yoga or they have practiced and taught ‘Journey into Power’ over the course of years at a studio that offers the sequence.
Baptiste Yoga website contains 53 asanas (poses), that are linked together by connective momentum and consists of five classical pillars:
Drishti (gaze)
Ujjayi (breath)
Bandhas (foundation)
Tapas (heat)
Vinyasa (flow)

Note: Baptiste Yoga is typically practiced in a hot room of around 90 to 95 degrees Fahreheit, although I have practiced in a room much hotter and well up to 107 to 110 degrees. That’s piping hot! The whole sequence will take 90 minutes to complete but it’s also possible to do a 20-30 minute or 45-60 minute self practice.
